Kafein is commited to a sustainable future and to improving the social, economic and environmental well being of the community. We acknowledge that consistantly monitoring, measuring and reducing our negative impact on the environment will contribute to local, national and global communities. We see this as our corporate resposibility and implement ourselves as well as impose to the companies we do business with. In an effort to protect natural resources, restore environmental quality and protect the health and welfare of our community, Kafein will define, deploy and sustain Environmental Management System (EMS) that will follow Plan-Do-Check-Act Management System Framework.
2011 Environment Management System (EMS) Measurements
Energy Consumption
Electric – 3273 Kilowatts consumed
Gas – 23199 Kilowatts consumed
Water – 57 m3 consumed
Calculated Scope 1 greenhouse gas emissions
Company Fleet – 8 Automobiles 26.9 tons of CO2 generated from fuel consumption
Calculated Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions
Electric – 1725 kg CO2 generated from electricity usage
Gas – 4292 kg CO2 generated from gas usage
Water – 1060 gr (1kg) CO2 generated from water usage
2012 Environment Management System (EMS) Goals
Energy Consumption
Reduce total energy consumption by 3-5% by 2012.
Scope 1 greenhouse gas emissions
We plan to reduce Scope 1 CO2 emmission by 8% to 10% in year 2012.
Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions
Scope 2 CO2 emmision will be reduced by 3-5% as similar to our energy consumption reported above for the year 2012. This target will be achieved from Electricity and Natural gas consumption only due to very low and constant water consumption.
2012 First Quarter Results
Scope 1 GHG - Due to automobile fuel consumption, 3.2 tons CO2 released in year 2012 which compared to 4.8 tons in same period in 2011. About 33% CO2 reduction achieved compared to last year.
Scope 2 GHG - Due to electricity consumption, total of 405 kg of GHG emission released in 2012 Q1 which compared to 377 kg in same period last year. This is a slight increase which will be monitored rest of the year.
Due to natural gas consumption, 1824 kg GHG released in 2012 Q1, compared to 1784 kg GHG in 2011 Q1
Due to water consumption, 202 gr. GHG released in 2012 Q1, compared to 265 gr in 2011 Q1
In terms of our goal of 3-5% reduction in Scope 2 GHG still seems to be achievable in the year 2012, however, we need to watch the changes closely.
